Citrix MetaFrame 1.8/XP is commonly utilised by Application Service Providers [ASP's] to deliver mission-critical application software to subscribing client organisations who require a flexible and cost-effective solution to their IT requirements.

Flexibility, data security. low bandwidth requirements and an excellent range of diverse Independent Client Architecture [ICA] clients ensures true enterprise-class computing for mission-critical applications from this server-based thin-client computing model.

Based upon Microsoft Terminal Services Edition, Citrix MetaFrame provides clustering technology with its server-based farms and complements any existing Windows NT or Windows 2000 installation.

Following the installation of Microsoft Terminal Services Edition, Citrix MetaFrame is installed as an add-on product, to provide the additional functionality supported by Citrix. Without MetaFrame, Terminal Services provides only  the Remote Desktop protocol [RDP] which restricts access to Windows 32bit clients only. By installing Citrix MetaFrame, which uses the faster Independent Computing Architecture [ICA], Windows 32bit, 16bit, and CE clients can be supported, together with DOS, UNIX, Macintosh, Web Browser clients [Explorer/Netscape], Java and X11 clients can all be supported.

Direct ICA clients can then configured, client drives and printers mapped and where appropriate, web browser clients can be configured for web connectivity, either embedded or launched.

Citrix MetaFrame can be implemented either within a workgroup, as a member server in a domain, or as part of a Citrix server farm within a single or multiple domain model. Manual load-balancing can be performed between servers in the farm, or add-on products can be installed to automatically load balance servers according to preset criteria.

Published applications can be deployed to tens or hundreds of users within a matter of minutes with access to the applications controlled by simple Windows NT security groups. For Windows 32bit clients, Citrix Program Neighborhood is the interface which connects to the server resources and eliminates the necessity to run a desktop session in order to run server-based applications.

Whilst the standard implementation of Citrix MetaFrame provides a significantly enhanced version of Microsoft Terminal Services Edition, additional Citrix products for MetaFrame environments can further enhance system functionality and reduce management overhead. These products include, Installation Management Services [IMS], Resource Management Services [RMS], Load Balancing Services, SecureICA Services, UNIX Integration Services, Citrix VideoFrame and NFuse.

eVolution network engineers would perform the initial installation of your Citrix MetaFrame Server into a laboratory environment for testing, configuration and tuning, prior to the release into your production environment.  Optionally, on-site or remote maintenance and performance monitoring of your installation would be available.
